Can we control whether fans get downloads or streaming-only access?

Download and DRM settings are set per campaign by the artist and label, and this covers how each option behaves.

Written by Andrea Torres

You control this fully, per campaign. Streaming-only is common during the early window, downloads can open later, and DRM or DRM-free is your choice. These settings are always the artist's and label's call, and EVEN never overrides them.

Streaming-only during the early window

Most campaigns with exclusive early tracks keep downloads off while the music is still unreleased. Fans stream from their library on the artist's site, and turning downloads off during the exclusive window is one of the layers protecting unreleased music.

Opening downloads later

Downloads can open after the early-access window. Fan libraries update automatically, so nobody has to buy anything again or take any action. Once downloads are live, fans see a download arrow on the music player and can save tracks to a phone or computer. Downloads are delivered as MP3, which keeps files compatible across devices.

File quality

Artists upload WAV files. Those get compressed for streaming playback so playback stays smooth, and downloads are delivered in MP3.

DRM

DRM or DRM-free is set per campaign, same as downloads. Neither is a default EVEN imposes.

How this gets set on a Studio campaign

Your EVEN team configures the download setting and the download date during campaign setup, working from what you tell them at kickoff. On the self-serve EVEN marketplace an artist sets this themselves at upload; on Studio it's part of the build your team approves. If a release is already live and you want to open downloads, raise it in your shared thread and your EVEN team can enable it.
